WHO AM I AND WHY?
Ever since I can remember, I have searched for the ultimate men's fragrance. One that would showcase the most enchanting scent a man could wear. This relentless search led me to develop a YouTube channel, currently the most popular perfume channel in the world in Spanish: Andrés Perfume-Man
In recent years, I have tried thousands of fragrances and purchased over 500, to test them more thoroughly in real life. My search is focused on finding those that yield the best results in terms of positive reactions and compliments.
This same drive naturally led me to the desire and the means to develop MY OWN PERFUME.
HOW I DID IT
CHRIS MAURICE
Since January of 2020, I have been developing my perfume with the perfumer Chris Maurice, also known as Christian Carbonnel. He has created many of the world's most important fragrances for major luxury perfume houses, among them: Xerjoff, Nishane, Fragrance du Bois and many more. Learn more about each perfume created by Christian in the Fragrantica entries: here and here.
ANDRÉS CROXATTO
It's my real name and that of my brand. With this, I express how personal the brand is to me and the level of responsibility I assume in answering for it.
Since October 2020 I decided to get even more involved in the project and built my own perfume studio, to understand exactly what I'm doing, and to create part of the final formula.
Here I have made a good part of the final formula, so I have been directly involved in my perfume; but also, and very important to me; I have learned a great deal. In the video below, I elaborate more on how I did it.
I have passed my part of the formula to Chris Maurice, he has checked that it is properly balanced, chemically stable, and complies with regulations.
MILESTONES
- At the beginning of 2020 I gave Chris Maurice my Briefing for the perfume, that is, the written description of how I wanted it. I elaborate more on these characteristics in the following points.
- Carbonnel sent me about 20 proposals, including perfumes he had already developed in his studio and others custom-made from scratch with my Briefing. I selected one and we started to work on it.
-
From that point and for the last year, approximately every 1 month, he sends me samples with the modifications we discuss.
- In April 2021, we reached the final formula.
I have to thank Chris Maurice for his exceptional work in formulating. And the flexibility to accommodate all the changes I've asked for, which apparently have been much more than usual. And also for the generosity to let me participate in the formula myself.
I recently shared more details about the perfumer and my studio:
MY RULES
At the start of this project, I wrote some guidelines for myself, the first one was literally "Priority No. 1 is for the perfume to be exceptional".
I never cared much about the "how", the design, the packaging, the time, the cost, the sales, etc. Because I am convinced that once the perfume is truly exceptional; everything else falls into place almost by itself (e.g. sales) or has much less importance (e.g. design).
The result of this process and the cornerstone of the entire project: The liquid inside the bottle.
THE PERFUME
"Masculine, modern, fresh, high-class, versatile, original, and intense". These 7 characteristics were non-negotiable for me if I aimed to create a perfume that was exceptional in my eyes.
I elaborated more on these characteristics in this video:
And even more non-negotiable when I'm chasing the chimera of achieving "The ultimate and most charming scent that a man can wear."
Have I achieved it? Yes, from my unique point of view.
THE SCENT
- A HANDFUL OF ITALIAN LUXURY: Gin and Italian citruses. Including some of the most expensive citrus essences on the planet: Neroli, Petitgrain bergamotier, and authentic Bergamot . Here is a significant part of what is fundamental to me in this fragrance: The "Gentleman" personality fresh and neat. It is done originally and with the charm I seek.
- FRUIT PUNCH: With tropical and green nuances. Vibrant and persistent. With lively and astringent facets of freshly cut grass. For me, this part makes up more than half of the total masculine character of the fragrance. Strong, energetic, charming, prominent in the composition.
- PURE CLASS BACKGROUND: The base, built among other things with Wood of Guaiac, Cedar, Moss, Vanilla, and Musks. I perceive it with enormous impact and personality. Initially, it only appears as a distant complement to the initial scent, gradually transforming into an overwhelming mass. Like few I've seen in my life.
OCCASIONS FOR USE
I designed this perfume from the first minute to be ultra-versatile. Fresh and high-class.
From my point of view, it works well for anything from going out to buy bread in the morning to attending the most elegant events at night.
But be careful, it smells like an expensive fragrance, so for very informal situations, although I see it as perfectly appropriate, keep in mind that it will project high status and due to its intensity will not go unnoticed.
DURATION AND SILLAGE
My perfume is above average in intensity and duration.
For example, applying 2 sprays lasts 8 hours with good projection and sillage indoors.
I recommend selecting the number of sprays between 2 (standard charm) and 5 (atomic bomb style attention). Once you get to know the perfume, you will be able to better gauge its potency, depending on how and where you use it: Indoors-Outdoors, cold-warm, clothing-skin, day-night.
THE NAME
ANDRÉS CROXATTO MANThe name of my perfume is the simplest thing conceivable: My brand + the word "Man," simply indicating that the perfume is mine and it's for men.
THE BOTTLE
This is exactly the bottle. Flask-like, simple, masculine, with lines full of strength and the classic curve. Its own shape relates to one of its original functions: To be stored in a pocket and to adapt to the shape of the body.
My perfume is not stored in a pocket, but I do want to imbue it with the same spirit of being the quintessential personal male object, like the flask.
In the photo, it still doesn't have the final labeling, color, and cap.
The bottling, design, and packaging will also be done in Barcelona.
